Zubro writes bestselling mysteries set in Chicago and the surrounding Cook County area, which are widely praised as fast-paced, with interesting plots and well-rounded, likeable characters.  His longest running series features high school teacher Tom Mason, and Tom's boyfriend, professional baseball player Scott Carpenter. The other series Zubro is known for is the Paul Turner mysteries, about a Chicago police detective. The books are a part of the Stonewall Inn Mystery series, published by St. Martin's Press. Zubro is a past winner of the Lambda Literary Award.
I wanted to created a tribute page to him not only because he was my junior high English teacher and I enjoy his books but also because he was one of the first adults who told me I could write.

Tom and Scott Mysteries:
Marks' characterizations are fun and wry and they don't suffer fools gladly.  He lampoons everything: gay stereotypes and well-meaning do-gooders, lazy school administrators, drag queens, and community leaders.  He gives us insights into the workings of the public education; the good, the bad and the ugly.  All his mysteries are sparse without being simplistic and fun yet they do touch on some important contemporary issues.

Paul Turner Mysteries:
Paul Turner is an openly gay Chicago homicide detective with two sons.  Brian is a typical teen and Jeff a spunky pre-teen with spina bifida.  Buck Fenwick is his colorful, brassy and profane partner.  In this series Zubro explores family themes, handicaps, prejudices and stereotypes but never sinks to melodrama or pathos.  Like his other series, his stories are quick-paced and fun.
